Theremin Day

Theremin_day

I’m just putting the finishing touches to the kits (pictured) and preparations for Theremin Day – www.thereminday.co.uk – which will be taking place this Saturday at The Edge, an emerging arts space in Digbeth, Birmingham.

The event will be run by myself and the (much treasured) Birmingham hackerspace, fizzPOP. Hackerspaces bring something distinctive to the culture of an area, helping to draw together a broad array of talented techies, to build an create things through pooled talent and resources. The outcomes range from art to inventions, to simply a bit of geeky socialising.

Theremin Day is both an afternoon workshop and an evening of live Theremin performances. In the workshop people of all technical abilities will create an Optical Theremin each, along these lines:

The evening event will feature Theremin videos, some great local musicians, a rare performance of Steve Reich’s Pendulum Music and a liveset by one of the nation’s most renowned Theremin players, Ms Hypnotique.

So looking forward to Theremin Day!!

Sam.
